How people should react seeing police brutality

(fixed.)

This is hands-down my favourite video of all time. I will reblog it forever and always.

Beautiful.

ACAB

god damn this gets me so pumped

fuck you, shitbags

Now that’s what I’m talking about

Wow watching this video made me so happy.

alternately titled, “The Day Pigs Really, Really Wished They Could Fly”

Was that the goalie or the ref that was like, “Aw HELL NAW!” at the very beginning of the collective ass-whuppin?

Welp!

I’d prefer that the crowd non-violently intervened, but this is better than cowed compliance.

The Onion: The Onion Apologizes

ave-atque-vale:

theonion:

Feb. 25, 2013

Dear Readers,

On behalf of The Onion, I offer my personal apology to Quvenzhané Wallis and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for the tweet that was circulated last night during the Oscars. It was crude and offensive—not to mention inconsistent with The Onion’s commitment to parody and satire, however biting.

No person should be subjected to such a senseless, humorless comment masquerading as satire.

The tweet was taken down within an hour of publication. We have instituted new and tighter Twitter procedures to ensure that this kind of mistake does not occur again.

In addition, we are taking immediate steps to discipline those individuals responsible.

Miss Wallis, you are young and talented and deserve better. All of us at The Onion are deeply sorry.

Sincerely,

Steve Hannah

CEO

The Onion

good apology.

now, is everyone ready to stop defending this crap as “satire” and “just humor”?

unfortunately not, if you read the comment thread on facebook. And do yourself a favor, don’t read the comment thread on facebook.

Don’t talk to yourself in such a way that if you did so to a friend, it would end your friendship.

If you had a friend dealing with the same things, you wouldn’t berate that person, say, ‘You’re not working hard enough,’ ‘You suck,’ or ‘You’re not as good as [whomever].’ You’d offer your friend encouragement, you’d try to point out all the things your friend did right, and how much progress your friend had made.

You should do no less for yourself.

Be very careful how you talk to yourself. Because *you are listening.*

The Weekly Ansible: 50 Sci-Fi & Fantasy Works Every Socialist Should Read (by China Mieville)

theweeklyansible:

Reposted from Fantastic Metropolis, author China Mieville lays out a list of 50 science fiction and fantasy works he feels every socialist ought to read.

Metropolis is THE sci-fi film every thoughtful socialist should watch, though its ultimate conclusion can be described as fascist.

When I became a socialist I was also studying Sociology and Philosophy academically. I experienced something that seems to be a trend…
